Make Your Name Part of the Magic

When performing, one of the most important things you can do is make sure people remember your name. Too many magicians put on incredible shows, leaving their audience amazed, yet when those same spectators leave the venue, they cannot recall the name of the magician they just saw. This is a missed opportunity because a name is your brand. If they don’t remember it, they can’t recommend you, look you up, or book you in the future.

The key is repetition and subtle branding. Take Mac King for example—he begins his show with “Howdy, I’m Mac King,” and repeats it several times throughout the performance. By the end, everyone knows exactly who they saw. Bill Malone took it a step further with a brilliant routine where the audience actually chanted his name. That’s a powerful way to etch yourself into people’s memory.

Simple strategies can make a big difference. Having your name on your backdrop, props, or signage ensures the audience sees it visually while they hear it verbally. When you bring someone on stage to assist, reintroduce yourself: “Hi, I’m Ken Scott—what’s your name?” This not only personalizes the moment but also reinforces your identity.

Ultimately, the goal is to associate your magic with your name so strongly that people cannot separate the two. Your show might be unforgettable, but if your name is forgotten, the impact is lost. Make your name part of the magic—repeat it, display it, and own it. That’s how you turn great shows into lasting recognition.
